We are looking for an experienced freelance book designer/formatter to transform our 55-page Word document into a polished, branded guide to owning a new puppy. The book will be sold initially as a digital product and later as a print-on-demand title.
Scope of Work E-Book Design & Layout Format the 55-page Word document into a professional e-book with clear structure, typography hierarchy, and engaging layout. Incorporate illustrations, photos, or graphics to make it visually appealing and accessible. Apply branding in a subtle, natural way (not overly commercial). Use Canva (or equivalent user-friendly tool) so we can make light edits in-house after setup.
File Formats Deliver files in multiple formats: EPUB, MOBI, and print-ready PDF. Provide editable versions for future updates.
Metadata Optimisation Guide us on optimising titles, categories, descriptions, and keywords to boost discoverability once published.
Publishing Advice Recommend the best platforms for launch and sales, including: Amazon KDP – for global reach in digital and print. Etsy or Shopify – for direct-to-consumer sales under Dudley & Co. IngramSpark – for wider print distribution beyond Amazon. Gumroad/Payhip – for straightforward digital product sales. StanStore - for digital product sales
Deliverables Professionally formatted e-book (EPUB, MOBI, PDF). Print-ready version for on-demand publishing. Style guide/template for future Dudley & Co. e-books. Skills & Experience Required
Proven track record in book formatting and layout (portfolio required). Experience working across digital and print-on-demand formats. Strong design and typography skills for digital publishing. Expertise in Canva (or similar platform) to allow simple in-house edits. Excellent command of written English. Knowledge of metadata optimisation and digital publishing platforms. Experience advising on publishing strategies and platform selection.
Nice to Have Previous work on lifestyle, pet, or brand-led content. Ability to repurpose templates efficiently to meet budget constraints.
