We are a UK-based company located in Cannock, Staffordshire, seeking a long-term partner—either an experienced freelancer or a dedicated individual within a company—to support and further develop our bespoke in-house order management software. This is not a short-term engagement nor is it a job offer. We are looking for someone who can commit to understanding our system in depth and be available on an ongoing basis to provide immediate support when issues arise. We fully understand that this level of commitment carries cost implications and are open to discussing appropriate fees for standby and emergency response. What We’re Looking For: • Expertise & Reliability: You’ll need to be a high-calibre individual, capable of managing both systems and processes effectively. Our software is critical to our operations, so reliability and prompt responsiveness are essential. • Hands-On Learning Period: Initially, you’ll be required to work onsite at our Cannock office alongside our developers for a period of 1 to 3 months to gain a comprehensive understanding of the system. • Remote & On-Call Support: Once up to speed, the role can shift primarily to remote work, with the expectation of occasional office visits (typically one day per week or as needed). • UK-Based: You must be UK-based and willing to travel to our Cannock office as required. • Priority Response: You must be able to prioritise our support needs, temporarily pausing other commitments to address urgent issues—most of which are typically resolved within a couple of hours. • Ongoing Development: Beyond maintenance and emergency fixes, we’d like you to be actively involved in future development projects, contributing to the evolution of our software. Why This Role Is Critical: Our team consists of 15 people, including two developers—each with knowledge of different parts of the system. No one currently has a full understanding of the entire platform. This creates a vulnerability when either developer is unavailable due to holiday or illness. Once an order is submitted, it is digitally transmitted to our warehouse, where staff use barcode scanners to pick the required stock. The items are then packed and dispatched to the customer via DPD. We are in the process of upgrading to Version 2, which includes a completely new website and an enhanced order processing system to improve efficiency and scalability.
