Objective: Create an AI-powered software tool for automating and improving government workflows, such as document processing, form-filling, and summarization. The project will aim to enhance efficiency, reduce bias, and promote ethical AI use within public services.
Scope of Work
1. Research and Setup
Study the relevant government workflows (e.g., document handling, form processing, etc.) to identify automation opportunities.
Select appropriate AI techniques for natural language processing (NLP), machine learning (ML), and document summarization to fit the identified workflows.
Implement ethical AI practices to reduce bias and ensure fairness in the automation process.
2. Core Features
Document Processing & Form Filling Automation
Use NLP models (like spaCy or transformers) to extract relevant information from forms and documents (e.g., names, addresses, and other structured data).
Automate form filling based on extracted data from documents.
Document Summarization
Implement AI to automatically summarize lengthy government documents, such as public policy reports or legal documents.
Ensure summaries are accurate and concise, saving time for government employees.
Bias Mitigation & Ethical AI
Integrate techniques to minimize bias in document processing by training the AI on diverse, inclusive datasets.
Provide tools for bias auditing to ensure the AI operates fairly across different demographic groups (e.g., ensuring the system works equitably for people from all racial or socio-economic backgrounds).
User Interface (UI)
Develop a simple, accessible web-based interface or command-line tool where users can upload documents, view summaries, and interact with the automated system.
Allow users to configure preferences for how they want documents to be processed (e.g., form filling, summarization).
Integration with Government Systems
Make the tool easily adaptable for integration with existing government databases and systems.
Provide an option for data import/export that can work with existing government records management systems.
DEMONSTRATION:
Partner with a local government department or public service agency to pilot test the tool, gathering feedback for improvement.
Document the real-world testing process, including feedback from government employees about the tool’s effectiveness and ease of use.
