Expected duration: 1 - 2 weeks I'm looking to secure a developer in the immediate future to work on designing a custom plugin for our WordPress website.
What we're effectively looking to do is create a "Jargon Buster" plugin. This plugin will allow us to add words and definitions (And some extra bits) - and then users who read our websites resources, blog posts and news posts will have a small icon beside a word contained within our Jargon buster - which when clicked shows a small popup with the definition, and potentially a link to "learn more"
The Jargon buster will also have it's own page, which will be a directory of sorts. Everything will be ordered alphabetically, with all words in a toggle type box which expands when clicked. This expanding box will contain the definition, categories, a "see also" section, and potentially a button to expand on this word.
Not all jargon words will have their own designated page. If it does however, there will be several sections, which include - Definition (Large text box) - The Bigger picture (Large text box) - Saying it differently (Large text box) - How people feel (A large text box with the ability to embed a youtube video) - What people say (Maybe a single line text box, with the option to add more - These will contain a quotation mark icon to the left of them)
I've attached several images, showing how I imagine this would work. Each part is labeled so you can see what it would look like on the front end, and the back end. I am open to ideas if you feel there is a better way this can be done.
Explanations of the labels from the images included
-- Main Page.png -- This would be the main page of the jargon buster. There would be a navigation menu which sticks to the top of the page when scrolling down, with each letter an anchor link.
"Jargon Buster Example" would be the word/piece of jargon. For example "Care" 2 - This would be the definition of the jargon. 3 - This would be the "See also" words 4 - This would be the categories that the word belongs to 5 - This would be a button which takes people to the expanded definition page. **NOTE** - Not all jargon will have this. 6 - This is a rough example of how it will look on a news post, resource post or a blog post. A little blue icon will show (In this case, the word example) - and when clicked it will show a popup box with the definition. Only if the Jargon has an extended page, should the "Click here to see more" show up.
-- Expanded Definition Page.png -- Protcted: Example 1 - This would be the Jargon word 2 - The definition 3 - See also terms 4 - Categories the jargon word belongs to 8 - The Bigger Picture (Large text box) 9 - Other words people may wish to use 10 - How people feel - This is a section where we will have a little writing, and then a youtube embed 11 - What people say - This will be a little bit of text, and then a list of quotes
-- Admin Page -- This page shows roughly what the admin interface looks like. Probably something on the right hand side called "Jargon Buster" with the option to view all jargon added (and edit them if needed) - and an "Add New" section.
It's important to note that not all words will have "How People Feel" Section - If nothing is put in here, then this section should not display on the expanded page. Likewise, some words may not belong to a category, or have a See Also section - If this is the case, they should not display either.
Add new jargon - This would be the jargon word 2/7 - The definition goes here 3 - See Also - This would be a list of all the jargon, and would let us select which words belong to what 4 - The categories of jargon 5 - Learn More - This would be a radio box, defaulted to no. If Yes is selected, it would mean that the expanded page is created and visable, with the popups showing the link to this words expanded page. (Not all words will have this expanded page) 8 - The Bigger Picture (Large text box?) 9 - Other words people may wish to use 10 - How people feel - This is a section where we will have a little writing, and then a youtube embed 11 - What people say - This will be a little bit of text, and then a list of quotes
-----
Additional info - - The website uses the Divi theme, and is hosted on SiteGround. - We have approximately 1000 pages on the website. - We're expecting to add around 600+ jargon words. - We would not want these expanded pages to show up on google, or be indexed - We'd be open to discussing this further on a video call - We'd not like the icons to pop up on Pages - Only Posts (Not including the Jargon Buster pages) - We'd like it to be optimised for speed/security. - We're a non-profit organisation. We selected the budget based off what PPH has recommended, and from when we first scoped this project. The budget is a little flexible.
