We are looking to expand our existing engineering team with a couple of very strong backend Java engineers. No agencies. Only individual contributors.
You will enjoy working with us if you:
- like to figure things out and can work with minimal guidance.
- communicate well (mostly written interactions) and love to share your thoughts on other engineers code and take their feedback without any ego
- love to engage in design discussions and want to influence the path
- like to learn new things/tech/domain (we will provide the paid time)
- proactively look for ways to improve process, code, design and drive what should be the next task the team should be doing
- proactively work to make the code better and prefer to iterate/refactor

- expect well-defined design and execution path by someone else
- expect well-documented process and code
The work will involve following skill sets:
a) Java development on our web services stack. In particular SpringBoot.
b) Web crawling publicly available data and ingesting in certain formats.
c)Ingesting rss feeds from heterogeneous sources to a standard format.
d) Use backend databases -- Oracle, MySQL, elastic search, Druid
e) Dockerization/Cloud deployment of applications, experience working with Linux, Amazon EC2
f) JUnit tests, JMeter tests of the stack. Git pull-request workflow.
g) Ability to go through thousands of lines of code and quickly pick up a new domain is a solid plus
h) Code quality tools like SonarQube
Please note that we are looking for long-term contractors only. If we decide to work together, you need to go through background checks with upwork enterprise. This step is mandatory before we engage you in long-term projects.
For the evaluation purposes we are offering a really small paid project to complete, before we enter into long-term relations. Please find the task definition attached.
