Manual Data Verification & Enrichment (Shopping Centres/Retail Parks in the UK)
We have compiled a database consisting of approximately 5,700 entries. Our objective is to manually clean these entries. Please note, not all of the 6,000 locations are genuine shopping areas, hence some may need to be removed. Those identified as shopping areas should be scrutinized further.
You will conduct this task using our backend system, which provides a straightforward form for each entry. Below, we detail the steps you need to follow for each of the 5,700 entries. We are seeking someone who can curate this list meticulously.
Identify the Type of Entry
Determine if the entry is a shopping area (an area containing multiple shop locations such as a Shopping Centre or a Retail Park). Utilize Google for this purpose, or sometimes, the nature of the area can be inferred from the item's name itself (e.g., the name of an individual store). a. If it qualifies as a Shopping Area, proceed to the next step. b. If it doesn't (e.g., it's a single shop), check the 'Ignore' box and save the location. Verify the Name of the Entry
a. Primarily use the official website for this verification. b. If that's unavailable, resort to a Google search. c. Alternatively, zoom into Google Maps (situated at the bottom of the page) and search for a name there. Website Verification
a. If a website is provided, validate its authenticity and functionality (if it's incorrect or non-functional, eliminate it). b. If no website is listed, attempt to locate it using Google. (Please note that not all areas might have an associated website, though many do). Select the Subtype from the Dropdown Menu
a. [Living Mall]: An area predominantly comprising furniture, DIY, home decoration shops, etc. b. [Shop Center]: An area, at least partly indoor, accommodating daily necessities stores (groceries, supermarkets, pharmacy, drugstores, etc.) c. [Shopping Area]: An outdoor area (akin to a town square) with stores catering to daily needs. d. [Shopping Street]: A segment of a street populated with stores for daily essentials. Examine and Modify the Map (if required)
Analyze the map and zoom in if needed to the red dotted region. Does this region encompass the entirety of the shopping area on the map? (Toggle between 'MAP' and 'SATELLITE' views for a clearer perspective.) a. If yes, and no stores are omitted, proceed. b. If no, and some stores are beyond this boundary, adjust the white dots of the red region to include the missed stores. c. If no dotted region is discernible, or it appears erroneous, select 'Reset Polygon', zoom into the correct area, and rearrange the dots to encapsulate the shopping area. Lastly, click [SAVE].
