This is admin plus a bit of research and promotion. A friend of mine is putting on a play at a theatre in London about 9/11 in September, the 20th anniversary. It’s called The Duration by Bruce Graham - "20 years ago, 9/11 changed the world. Globally, it precipitated bloody wars and conflict that endure still today. The heartache of those who lost loved ones in the Twin Towers hasn’t gone away either. For the United States, the collective grief generated by the attack has had a profound impact on that nation’s psyche. The Duration, a new play by Bruce Graham, explores the legacy of this terrorist strike. Set in the US, it is a finely written story of two liberal American academics. Mother and daughter, they share a huge loss – the mother’s son, the daughter’s twin brother, was killed on 9/11. The play considers responses to grief, and in particular how this mother is radically changed by her bereavement. Graham’s characters are rounded and real, his treatment delicate and nuanced, funny and insightful. There is a bigger picture at the heart of this play. Graham parallels the impact on families of what happened on that September day, with the premise that America may not have come to terms with its collective grief, that an unresolved anger gave rise to the Trump phenomenon. Talking about his nation’s response to 9/11, Graham uses this quote - “When you forgive, you in no way change the past – but you sure do change the future.” The Duration demonstrates the fall out - for individuals and a nation - when anger festers. Importantly, it also shows us a way forward. It offers us hope - something that has been in short-supply as we continue to take stock of the huge loss of human life caused by the pandemic. All Ignite Theatre will be presenting the world premiere of The Duration at London’s Playground Theatre, to coincide with the 20th anniversary of 9/11. "
What we need is someone to investigate local secondary schools in the area and contact the Head of Drama (or appropriate person) and see if they would be interested in bringing some pupils from their school to a performance. Unfortunately because schools break up next week and the play runs from the beginning of next term, there is an urgency about this. After that piece of work there will be other tasks, including investigating potential funding sources /grant making bodies, designing promotional materials etc. You may or may not be interested in this – we can package it or separate it.
Let me know if the project is of interest to you and we can go from there
