I need a London-based seamstress with relevant experience able to work on upcycled pieces and create patterns for designs. They must have a suitable work-space of their own with a fully functioning, competent sewing machine (an overlocker would be an added bonus but not necessary).
Re_considered aims to provide a circular alternative to the process of make-buy-waste that is harmful to planet and people. Re_considered sells upcycled garments from items that are so often thrown away into more desirable pieces. We also provide a service where people can get their neglected pieces upcycled into items they want to wear again. Re_considered is about giving a new life to those clothing items so often discarded after one or two wears.
You will assist with upcycling garments and creating unique pieces. Re_considered is a small start-up based in London.
Job Duties: - Upcycling for Re_considered 1 day (8 hrs) a week (£112 p/w) - Meeting with designer and other seamstresses in person, or online, to discuss the projects for the upcoming week/s. - Making Re_considered’s signature upcycled garments. - Creating one-off custom upcycled pieces. - Taking photos of the garments before and after they are upcycled. - Entering garment information into computer inventory system
Skills and Qualifications: - Has at least two years of relevant sewing experience (does not need to have experience in upcycling specifically) - Knowledge of pattern making would be a bonus, but not required - Good technical knowledge of fit, make and construction - Good eye for detail - Ability to follow all pre-established installation and quality methods, procedures and guidelines to ensure consistency of work - Ability to also be flexible and troubleshoot - Ability to prioritise and manage time effectively - Able to work at own initiative - Able to think creatively
