I've produced a Tableau Dashboard for a client and we are experiencing slow loading times. We are looking for someone to help us understand how the dashboard could be optimised, and how much we can realistically speed the dashboard up.
The dashboard is based on data in an Google Cloud SQL server. We have gone through the usual optimisations steps such as, extracting the data and limiting the amount of filters in operation at any given time.
We are flexible about the scope of work here. This project could be
a) you simply providing us with recommendations as to what could speed the dashboard up with a rough indication of the time gain, or
b) you implementing the solutions yourself.
If you could provide us with:
• A rough indication of costs (although I appreciate this may depend on how much time you end up spending on it). • Some examples of your existing Tableau work • Any other information that assures us you are appropriate for this type of project.
We are hoping to get starting on this ASAP.
------- ADDING MORE INFO -----
The core of the issue if that for ~4 of the reports in the dashboard, Tableau spends about 3-4 seconds loading every time we change one of the filters on the page (according to the performance recording). These reports are built of up cities around the world. If, for example, we want to select ten cities, it takes 3.6 seconds every time we add another city as Tableau tries to render the report.
Some more general information that may be useful:
- The data uses static data which does not change. I have extracted this data since there is no point in it being live. - Each page has ~10 filters in operation. - There are only 500 rows of data in total. However, each row has 70 columns. - There are a number of calculated fields which run in the background which help us do things like, calculate ranks of these 70 columns, determine which colour each number in these 70 columns should be.
I am open to how we move forward. On on hand, I would be happy to pay £400 if someone could find a way to significantly reduce these loading times down from 3.5 seconds down to say, 1 second.
Alternatively, I would be happy to pay a smaller amount (ie £200) if someone could demonstrate a) what specifically is slowing down the dashboard, and what kind of choices I need to make if I want to speed this up (ie. I may need to drop a number of fields, formatting, etc etc).
What I really need is some certainly from someone who knows Tableau better than I around, how fast could this dashboard actually realistically be improved. Let me know what you think of this, and please let me know also know when you will have availability to work on it
