Scale-Tec is a company that intends to bring to market a digital ruler. There is a clear gap in the market for a physical ruler, whose feature is to offer variable scales and graticules using a digital display. With the idea of the product crystallised and patented, there is now a need to conduct market research to fully identify the various markets this product can be sold into and at what price points.
With the modern display techniques that are available, a ruler can be produced that can provide a user with the facility to change both the graticule and scale to suit a range of measurements that are in common use by architects whilst viewing paper drawings.
The current solution is to have a range of engineering rulers available which cover a large range of measurement scales incurring cost and inconvenience. This problem can be addressed by utilising an ePaper display in which the graphical display can show any conceivable graticule and scale that the user may require. Supported by a relatively simple processor, the scales are stored in memory for recall at the touch of a button. The device is battery-powered, and the major advantage of using ePaper for the display is that it will retain any image written to it indefinitely without any power applied. This gives a greatly extended battery life.
Scale-Tec needs a fully experienced market researcher who will grasp the concept, ideas, and potential markets and convert these into valid data against which a business plan can be implemented to complete the development of various versions of this product in a measured and accurate way.
It is expected that both a high-end expensive “Apple-like” product for professionals and a cheap educational product for schools can be created and thus the collection and analysis of market data will be critical to the success of the product.
The rate paid for the suitable candidate will be commensurate with current industry levels, and initial timescales are expected to be in the region of 3 months.
